Seizure Activity example one
This strip shows moderate seizure activity superimposed upon atrial
fibrillation.
QRS complexes can be seen, and thus the rate and rhythm determined, but all
other detail is lost. The bottom trace, a recording of arterial pressure, tells us
that the heart is beating irregularly but that each beat is pumping blood well.
The electrical activity of the chest muscles, caused by seizure activity, confuses
the EKG trace, making it impossible to read clearly. This artifact
suggests that
something is wrong with the heart, but the pressure tracing tells us otherwise.
